Evaluating Traditional and Modern Laboratory Techniques for Determining Permanent Wilting Point
نویسندگان
چکیده
The permanent wilting point is often considered the lower limit for plant available water and can be measured in laboratory using a pressure plate apparatus (traditional method) or dewpoint potential meter (modern method). However, recent evidence suggests substantial discrepancy between soil moisture at points derived from these two techniques. This preliminary study investigated magnitude of traditional modern techniques concomitant effects on estimations. For analysis, total 21 undisturbed samples were collected top 20 inches profile 18 locations Kansas Mesonet. content was 22% higher clay loam soils 25% than values obtained meter. When apparatus, resulting capacity (PAWC) 33% 57% compared to PAWC estimated Only minor discrepancies about 8 9% observed both silt sandy soils.

Permanent Wilting Percentages of Soils Obtained from Field and Laboratory Trials.
In experimental work on the soil-water relations of plants in the field, it is advantageous to have some knowledge of the water-holding characteristics of the soil before the field trials are started. If the moisture equivalents or the field capacities and the permanent wilting percentages are known, an irrigation program for the various plots can be laid out in advance, with assurance that the...
متن کاملDeveloping Pedotransfer Functions for Estimating Field Capacity and Permanent Wilting Point Using Fuzzy Table Look-up Scheme
Study of soil properties like field capacity (F.C) and permanent wilting point (P.W.P) plays important roles in study of soil moisture retention curve. Pedotransfer functions (PTFs) provide an alternative by estimating soil parameters from more readily available soil data. In this study, a new approach is proposed as a modification to a standard fuzzy modeling method based on the table look-up ...
